Derby
Container Case Study
Why a High Cube Container with an Impact-Resistant Viewing Window Was Needed
The client required a compact container to test objects under controlled conditions at their Derby site. They needed clear visibility into the container during testing. However, standard glass posed a shatter risk.
To alleviate this risk, a container with a strong viewing window was the best option for the client. The window had to resist impact while maintaining clarity. Safety, durability and reliability all mattered.
A high cube container provided extra internal height. This made it ideal for testing and observation work.
How Did Lion Containers Provide the Solution?
Lion Containers supplied and modified a high cube container to meet testing and safety requirements.
Container Structure and Finish
- The team used a new cut-down high cube container measuring 7ft.
- Standard fabricated cargo doors provided secure access.
- The exterior was painted black in RAL 9004 for a clean, professional finish.
Makrolon Viewing Window Installation
- The team supplied and installed a 1000mm x 1000mm clear Makrolon window.
- Makrolon is a high-performance polycarbonate material.
- It offers impact resistance up to 250 times stronger than glass. Therefore, it suits testing and impact observation environments.
Why Makrolon was used?
Unlike glass, Makrolon does not shatter on impact. Instead, it absorbs force and remains structurally intact. This made Makrolon ideal for a high cube container used for object testing. The window allowed clear visibility while protecting operators.
Makrolon also handles temperature changes well. As a result, the high cube container supports long-term industrial use.
Delivery and Build Timescale
- The conversions team completed the container modification in five weeks and delivered the unit to Derby.
- It arrived ready for immediate testing use.
What Results Did the Client Achieve?
- The client received a safe and durable container for controlled testing.
- The Makrolon window provided clear visibility without shatter risk.
- The compact design supported efficient use of space.
