Many customers have approached us about the possibility of creating a home or living space out of shipping containers. In order to achieve this there are a number of basic components required to make your container(s) habitable, Lion Containers Ltd have not sought any advice from building regulations regarding this, however, the following format is the most popular requested by our customers using containers for similar projects:
- The average one bedroom bungalow self build shipping container home has used 4 x 20ft new containers.
- The new containers are fully lined and insulated with 15mm MDF and rockwool insulation. A number of finishes are applied to this ply but this is something our customers tend to like to do themselves!
- Six Kirncroft Anti-Vandal double glazed sliding windows are fitted with or without security shutters.
- A front and back Kirncroft Anti-Vandal personnel door is installed.
- We remove the cargo doors from the containers and install framework so that they can create a larger / modular area.
- We remove one side of one of the containers to create a large living room.
- We install a vinyl floor covering throughout though many of our customers alter this in the living areas.
- Strip lights, double sockets and basic wall heaters are installed throughout and an MCB board to suit.
- We install a toilet, shower, sink and water proof lining into the bathroom area.
- We install a sink, taps and worktop into the kitchen area.
- Stud walling is installed to separate the bathroom and bedroom and the living areas from the same.
- Interior doors are fitted.
