Refrigerated Container for Growing Fresh Herbs
Our Surrey-based fresh herbs grower, packer and distributor client initially got in touch with us as they required a refrigerated container; they were undecided as to whether they required a standard height or high cube container. They also enquired about having an electrical distribution board to power the lighting, and a water pump system with a maximum power draw of 50 amps. Our client supplies to supermarkets, wholesalers and food service sectors. They required the refrigerated container to grow their herbs in, all year round.
We discussed a number of options with our client, and the final specification was decided upon. A 40ft used high cube refrigerated container was used for the conversion, with a temperature of + or – 25 degrees (3 phase). The electrical specification consisted of a 16amp external commando socket, an isolator, 3 no. 20 amp mcbs and an internal 4 way distribution board with a 100 amp RCD. A 4" air extraction fan was supplied and installed to allow ventilation around the container, and 2 no. 30mm water pump inlet/outlet access apertures and a 4" aperture were created to suit the pipework that was being installed into the container.
Due to some building work that was going to take place in the area that we required access for delivery, there was a very tight time frame for delivery. However, our 40ft crane lorry delivered and off-loaded the container within the time specification given, ready to start growing fresh herbs just in time for our summer salads.
